Santa Barbara City College's Academic Senate Instructional Technology Committee, chaired by Laurie Vasquez, establishes AI policy in cooperation with the Senate and tracks generative AI tools and detection software. The Faculty Resource Center has delivered symposia on NotebookLM and Gemini, maintains syllabus guidance and a "Chat AI" resource page, and offers CCC End User Training modules, while the college has adopted academic integrity guidance stating students may use AI as a research tool but not substitute it for their own work. SBCC launched a tuition-free noncredit AI Foundations certificate through Extended Learning and hosts an AI Commons hub curating system-wide and peer resources, placing it in the mid-adoption phase with active faculty development and emerging curricular offerings.
